Membership @ OFC

I expect my church to:

Minister to my spiritual  needs, especially through the preaching of the Word.

Assist me with godly counsel, especially in times of decision, stress, and difficulty.

Provide me with opportunities for Christian fellowship.

Serve me and members of my family in matters of religious instruction.

Sustain me by the prayers and concern of pastors and fellow believers in any of the distressing circumstances of life.

Be a sound steward of my financial and personal investments in the kingdom of God.

We believe

The Bible is the inspired and only infallible and authoritative Word of God (2 Timothy 3:16).

There is one God, eternally existent in three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit (2 Cor. 13 - 14).

The deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death, in His bodily resurrection, in His personal future return to this earth in power and glory (Matt. 16:16; 1 Cor. 15:3-4).

The only means of being cleansed from sin is through repentance and faith in the precious blood of Christ (1 Peter 1:18-19).

Regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential for personal salvation (John 3:3-5).

In the sanctifying of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a holy life (Gal. 5:16).

In the resurrection of both the saved and the lost, the one to everlasting life, and the other to everlasting damnation ( John 5:28-29).

Why is Membership Important?

Church membership is important because it establishes a formal commitment to a local body of believers, fostering accountability, spiritual maturity, and mutual care.  It enables believers to exercise their spiritual gifts in service, provides structure for pastoral care, and validates a public, communal identity in faith.

Key Reasons for Church Membership:

Biblical Accountability & Care:

Membership enables pastors to fulfill their role as shepherds, knowing who they are accountable for, and provides a framework for loving and corrective discipline.

  • Commitment and Community: It represents a formal, covenantal pledge to a specific community, offering a deeper sense of belonging in a fragmented world.
  • Opportunities for Service: Membership encourages active engagement, helping individuals identify where they can best use their talents to support the entire church body, often described using the analogy of being a part of a living body.
  • Spiritual Growth: It helps individuals mature in their faith by fostering relationships with fellow believers who can encourage and challenge them.
  • Order and Structure: It assists in the practical management of church life, including voting, serving as leaders, and organizing care.

By joining a church, believers move from being spectators to active participants in a community, focused on shared worship, support, and mission.
